Vanessa Louise Smith was born, on February 10, 1957, to the late James Sheldon Gardner and the late Mary Louise Vanhoesen Gardner, in Del Ray Beach, Florida. Vanessa was a graduate of Florida Atlantic University.

Vanessa was a loving mother and grandmother.

She leaves her memories to her children, Daniel Louis (Anna) Winters, Jr. of Mount Pleasant, SC, Christopher Paul Smith of Gainesville, GA and Jessica Louise (Stephen) Polk of Sarasota FL; grandchildren, Daniel Winters, III, Harrison Winters, Zoey Polk, and Quinn Polk; and other relatives and friends.

On Friday, September 22, 2023, Vanessa transitioned at her home.
