Sharon Gatewood Huff

Sharon Gatewood Huff was born, on March 6, 1969, to Bobby Gene Gatewood and the late Mamie Helen Briggs Gatewood, in Spartanburg, SC. She was educated in Spartanburg County schools and a 1987 graduate of Boiling Springs High School where she was a recipient of the National Honor Technical Society Award. She continued her education at Winthrop University and obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in elementary education.

Sharon was a consummate educator. Sharon's passion and love in the field of education lead to her longevity and esteemed years as an educator at E. P. Todd Elementary School until her retirement. Sharon's unique teaching style was to adapt to her students and to ensure she communicated in a positive style providing clarity and understanding. Her teaching in this manner provided her students the opportunity to excel and to pursue their own personal goals. 

Sharon was a loving spirit with a generous heart. Her generosity and willingness to help others was a hallmark of her character. Sharon enjoyed meeting people and never met a stranger. She is noted for being an encourager and motivator. Sharon had an uncanny knack for being able to brighten anyone’s day and lighten the heaviest load. All in all, she had a winning attitude and that permeated anywhere she was present. In her pastime, she enjoyed reading the Bible and her favorite color was red.

 Sharon was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc Sorority with a moniker of Sargent. She cherished the friendships made through this affiliation.

She was a former member of Christian Missionary Fellowship under leadership of the late Reverend Herbert.

Sharon was preceded in death, along with her mother, by stepson, Quashawn L. Huff.

Sharon leaves her love, legacy and laughter to husband, Lonnie C. Huff of Spartanburg, SC; father, Bobby Gatewood of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Lisa Gatewood-McMillan of Charlotte, NC; brother, Michael  Gatewood of Duncan, SC; stepchildren, Kysman Huff of Columbia, SC, Destinee Foster of Spartanburg, SC, and Brittany Huff of Greenville, SC; grandchildren,Samijay Huff, Ayden Huff,Marshawn Huff, Kysmin Huff, and Kyler Huff; best friend, Cynthia Bates-Kershaw of Spartanburg, SC; a host of uncles, aunts, other relatives, friends, and students.

On Monday, September 11, 2023, Sharon valiantly folded her earthly tent. She left suffering of this world behind to start on a new heavenly journey. Her loving and generous spirit will forever be a hallmark of encouragement to all who loved and knew her. A life well lived and a legacy completed.
