Geneva Butler

Mrs. Geneva Butler was born on June 8, 1938, to the late Mavis McNally and the late Louellen Hughes, in Spartanburg, SC.  Geneva was educated in Spartanburg County Schools where she attended Carver High School and graduated from Spartanburg High School. She then continued her education at USC Upstate and Benedict College majoring in early childhood development.  She dedicated her career as an Early Childhood Educator for over 30 years.  

Geneva was a pillar and beacon of light for her family. She was a devout Christian and surely loved the Lord. She is most noted for being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Geneva was preceded in death, along with her parents, by her husbands, Millard St. Newman Brown, Sr. and Grady Bouknight; son Millard St. Newman Brown, Jr.; daughter, Sallie E. Lewis; granddaughter, Geneva Brown; siblings, Mae Bell Thompson, Charles Hughes, Edward Hughes, and Ollie Mae Hughes.

She leaves to cherish her fond and loving memory to her husband, Hosea Butler of the home; daughters, Amelia S. Brown of Lyman, SC and Stella D. Brown of Spartanburg, SC; niece, Cheryl Watkins who was raised in the home of Spartanburg, SC;  and sister, Betty Jean  Richardson;  a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 25, 2023 Geneva transitioned to her heavenly home with family by her side. Her life, love and legacy will be cherished by all who loved and knew her.
