Mr. Ernest Smith, Jr., “Big J”, was born on December 13, 1952, to the late Ernest Smith and the late Louise Smith in Spartanburg County. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was of the Baptist faith.
Ernest was noted as being one of the greatest auto mechanics in Spartanburg, SC and he also loved fishing. “Big J” loved his family and enjoyed working on his family members cars.
Ernest was preceded in death, along with his parents, by brothers J.W. Ferguson, Roland Smith, and Johnny Smith; sister, Lizzie Mae Clyburn; grandson, Andre Smith; granddaughters, Keosha Colvin and Alliyah Colvin; great-granddaughter, Serenity Paige Smith; and cousin, Geterba Thomas.
Ernest was the last remaining survivor of his immediate family.
He leaves his fond and loving memories to his devoted wife of forty years, Nancy Smith of the home; daughter, Tracy Nicole “Cup Cake”(Nicholas) Smith; son, Leonard “Earl” Colvin of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Traves Smith, Mackenzie Colvin, Madelyn Colvin, and Daveion Colvin; great-grandchildren, Admad Smith and Atlas Smith; nephews, Paul Clyburn, Brian Clyburn, and Tyrone (Lashonda) Robinson; nieces, Andrenia (Erica) Mitchell, Tabatha Robinson, and Tiffany Robinson; nephew, Roy Gee, II; and a host of other nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, cousins, other relatives and special friends.
On Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the age of seventy, “Big J” transitioned, after a brief illness, while surrounded by his family and friends.
