Deacon Hestor L Scott affectionally called, “Pop”, was born to the late Hestor L Scott Sr. and Lottie Scott, in Rice, VA. At an early age, he moved to Peekskill, NY, and it was there he joined the United States Navy and served in the culinary department of Naval Ships. After his service in the US Navy, he became employed with the VA Hospital in Montrose, NY.
Soon after he met the love of his life Pauline and they married in 1958. He retired from the VA Hospital after working in various capacities ultimately becoming the Kitchen Manager. His employment lasted for 35 years. He promised his bride that he would bring her back to her hometown after he retired, and true to his word they relocated to Greenwood, SC in 1983.
Some of his joys and talents were gardening, cooking, playing cards and outdoor games. He also enjoyed dancing, listening to all genres of music, and watching sports. Some of his favorite sports teams were the NBA’s NY Knicks, the NFL’s NY Giants, and the MLB’s NY Yankee’s.
His three greatest loves were God, family, and golf. He loved serving the Lord and his church family at Springfield Baptist Church. His love and dedication to the Lord and the Lord’s church led to him being ordained a Deacon, as faithfully and honorably served until his health began to fail.
He was a well decorated golfer winning the illustrious Westchester County Amateur. He also won several club championships at the former Parkland Golf Club.
He was a phenomenal provider and protector of his wife of 63 years, and their family. The life he lived and the love he lavished on his family epitomized what it is to truly be a Patriarch.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as a brother, Charlie Scott, a sister, Catherine Brown, and a nephew, Walter Morris Jr.
He leaves to cherish his fond and loving memories his wife Lillie Pauline, their two sons, Ronald (Denise) Scott of Greenwood, SC and Todd M. (Norma) Scott of Allen, TX; their daughter, Carla Scott of the home; nine grandchildren, Ronald (Laura) Scott Jr. of Peekskill, NY, Rev. Natasha (Rodney) Gresham of Greenwood, SC, Pastor Angela (Paul) Lee of Pasadena, CA, A’Shiah Chena Scott of Greenwood, SC, Sydney (Mya) Dennis of Minneapolis, MN, Tyree (Karshaelle) Scott of Port Orange, FL, Tressa Scott, Todd M. Scott II “Tiger” both of Allen, TX, and Markivs (Ebony) Scott of Spartanburg, SC; two special nieces, Geraldine Kearse and Delores Mosley both of Peekskill, NY; 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
