Curtis Rogers Obituary

Deacon Curtis Lee Rogers, nostalgically known as “Moon”, was born to Mrs. Eliza Spearman on August 7, 1962, in Jonesville, SC. Deacon Rogers was a graduate from Jonesville High School class of 1980. He later graduated Cum Laude with a BA in Business Administration from Strayer University. He retired after serving 38 collective years as a Staff Sargent in the US Army and civilian police officer at Fort Eustis, VA. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Denbigh in Newport News, VA, where he served as a deacon, member of the male choir, chairman of the Transportation Ministry, and mentor to teenage boys. Some of his talents and enjoyments included being an avid fisherman, cook, and grill master. His fried fish, sweet potato pie, and peach cobbler were exceptional. He could articulate inspiring and joyous words of expression, but above all he loved being with his family and traveling with his bride.

Deacon Rogers leaves cherished memories to his wife Michele L. Rogers; sons, Curtis Lee Rogers, Jr. of Newport News, VA and Tramell Johnson of Waynesboro, VA; a daughter, Ashley (Crushaun) Rice of Spartanburg, SC; his mother, Eliza Spearman of Teachey, NC; a brother, Myron (Pat) Spearman of Richmond, VA; sisters, Valerie Spearman of Wilmington, NC, Shirley (Rony) Delva of Bridgeport, CT, Karen Spearman of East Hartford, CT, and Virginia (John) Smith of Richmond, VA; an uncle, John (ViAnn) Rogers of Knoxville, TN; aunts, Sabra McKissick and Jenet Sims both of Jonesville, SC; grandsons, Ashton
Rice and Jaylin Rice both of Spartanburg, SC; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Frank and Carrie Rogers; and stepfather Sam “Pop” Spearman.

On February 20, 2023, Deacon Curtis Lee Rogers peacefully transitioned from his earthly labor to eternal rest. The memory of his infectious smile will continue to light up the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
