Walter
Miller
March 13, 2026
Walter Miller, affectionately known as “Walt” was born on July 19, 1944, to the late Helen Rice Miller and the late Geter Marcellous Miller, in Spartanburg, SC. He was educated in Spartanburg County schools and a graduate of Carver High School. Walter was an Occupational Therapist for many years.
Walter was a family man at heart. He loved spending time with his children and being surrounded by those he loved. Those moments meant everything to him and you could feel that love in the way he showed up for his family. He had a passion for fishing. Walter could fish all day and all night and one thing for sure, he wasn’t coming home without a catch. Fishing wasn’t just a hobby for him; it was a part of who he was patient, determined, and peaceful. And when it came to cooking, especially at a cookout, Walter was the master of the grill. He took pride in it and many of us can remember the taste of his food and the joy that came with it. But more than that, he didn’t keep his gifts to himself, he shared them. He taught others how to cook, how to enjoy life, and most importantly, how to treat people with kindness and respect. Walter built friendships everywhere he went. He had a way of connecting with people young and old alike. He made a lasting impact on so many lives, whether through a conversation, a lesson, or just by being present.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by brothers, John Joseph Miller and Eugene M. Miller and sisters, Helen Staggs and Peggy A. Allen.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kevin Moody and Teresa Moody both of Baltimore, MD; adopted children, Marvin P. Johnson of Bronx, NY, Marvin L. John of Rocky Mount, NC, Melinda Johnson of Rocky Mount, NC, and Kim Scott For of Harlem, NY; siblings, Christine Miller, Debra M. Moore, Brenda Allen, Gerald Miller, Katherine Miller, and Marilyn D. Miller all of Spartanburg, SC; 16 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; special friend, Donna Bates; special nieces, Requithalia Allen and Tracy Booker; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
On March 13, 2026, Walter transitioned at the SBH Health System. Today, while our hearts are heavy, we also celebrate a life well lived. Walter’s legacy lives on through his children, his family, his friends, and the many lives he touched. He may be gone from our sight, but he will never be gone from our hearts, Rest Well, Walter. You will always be loved and never forgotten.
