Obituary

Mr. Walter Dawkins, also known as "Big Dog ", was born October 18, 1944, to the late Charlie Lloyd Dawkins and the late Margaret Dawkins Littlejohn. A native of Spartanburg, SC, Walter was also educated in Spartanburg County schools.  At an early age, he began attending Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Cowpens, SC.  Walter was an entrepreneur and owned the "Big Dog" night club.  He was also employed and retired from the Deluxe Liquor store, where was known as "the man in the white coat".  Walter loved to dance and sing, but most importantly, loved being amongst his family and friends. He liked to try his luck on any good wager from picking a number to picking a team, and he was known for his "GQ" worthy style of dress.

To cherish memories he leaves his wife, Barbara Ann Bogan Dawkins of the home; three daughters, Sherry Collins of Boiling Springs, SC, Maria (Robert) Moss of Spartanburg, SC and Shirley Shenice Dawkins of Bronx, NY; one son, Tony (Angie) Collins of Norfolk, VA; one sister Catherine Dawkins of Spartanburg, SC; five sisters-in-law, Fannie Mae Dawkins, Mary Dawkins, Shirley Moss, Mary Harris all of Spartanburg, SC and Betty (William) Meadows of Brooklyn, NY; one brother-in-law, Johnny (Lena) Bogan; one uncle, Donald Dawkins of Spartanburg, SC; 15 grandchildren, including Jerika Moss, Joshua Moss, and Danika Moss reared in the home; 20 great-grandchildren, including Thomaz Meadows and Marlie Ann-Marie Moss reared in the home; and host of other relative and friends.

Mr. Dawkins was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Lee Dawkins, the twins Lloyd Dawkins and Floyd Dawkins; one sister, Patricia Ann Foster; one son Donald "Boot" Bogan; two daughters Cynthia Bogan and Margaret Collins.

On August 21, 2021, Mr. Walter Dawkins made a final fold of his hand when he answered the Lord's call.
