Tommy Gray Dendy was born December 16, 1946, in Spartanburg, SC to the late George Washington Dendy and the late Dorsie Mae Glenn Dendy. He was educated in the Spartanburg County schools and graduated from Florence Chapel High School.
Tommy loved attending car shows. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and won several awards. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle and working on bikes as well. He was featured in the Spartanburg Herald Journal about his bicycle passion. Tommy was outgoing and loved his grandchildren immensely. On holidays and birthdays he would bend over backward to ensure his children and grandchildren had everything they desired. He was a very generous and would "give you the shirt off of his back." He was also a barber and loved to watch the super bowl. Tommy Dendy was a member of Foster Chapel Baptist Church, and his favorite color was blue.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by wife, Mary Magdelene Brown Dendy; and siblings, Jason Dendy, George Dendy, Jr., Tina M. Dendy, Benny Dendy, William Dendy, Asa Lee Dendy, Christine Dendy, Elbert Dendy, and Albert Dendy; and granddaughter, Beverly Thomas.
Left to cherish his fond and loving memories are son, Tommy Lee Dendy of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Shirley (Jermaine) Thomas of Spartanburg, SC; brother, Luther (Barbara) Dendy of Salisbury, NC; sisters, Carrie (James) Livingston of Mount Vernon, NY, Doris Davenport and Katheleen Smith both of Duncan of SC; grandchildren, Ramiyah Thomas, Mary Thomas, Tyrell Thomas, and Jaliyah Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
On the morning of Thursday, May 9, 2024, Tommy transitioned peacefully at his home with his son at his side. His generous and kind spirit will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
