IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Ruth
(Dogan) Jefferies
June 7, 1937 – September 2, 2025
In Loving Memory of Shirley Ruth Dogan Jefferies
Shirley Ruth Dogan Jefferies was born on June 7, 1937, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the late Nettie Bell Dogan and James Albert Porter. A proud graduate of Foster's Grove High School, Shirley went on to build a dedicated career as an inspector at Abbott Laboratories, where she worked until her retirement.
In her youth, Shirley was a spirited and talented softball player, known for her competitive edge and love for the game. Her passion for life extended into her garden, where she found joy in planting vibrant flowers, and into her kitchen, where she became renowned for her exquisite cake baking—treats she lovingly shared with family and friends. She had a fondness for comedy shows and horror movies, embracing both laughter and thrills with equal delight.
A devoted fan of South Carolina sports, Shirley cheered faithfully for the University of South Carolina Lady Gamecocks Basketball team and the Gamecocks Football team. Her favorite color was blue, in every shade—a reflection of her calm strength and vibrant spirit.
Faith played a central role in Shirley's life. She was a dedicated churchgoer, attending services regularly until her health no longer permitted it. Shirley was a parishioner of Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, in Spartanburg, SC.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. She is survived by her son, Darrell E. Jefferies (Jessie) of Huntsville, AL; her stepdaughter, Shirley Robinson Stevens (Ron) of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, Miranda Robinson of Atlanta, GA, grandson reared in the home, Darrell Anderson of Atlanta, GA, Alisha Jefferies of Columbia, SC, Dieondiere' Jefferies (Courtney) of Dover, DE, and Jordan Jefferies of Huntsville, AL; five great-grandchildren; Tyler Robinson of Atlanta, GA, Ty Anderson (Leslie) of Atlanta, GA, Zariyah Jefferies of Columbia, SC, Xavier Jefferies of Columbia, SC and Zoe Jefferies of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and neighbors who were touched by her warmth and generosity.
On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Shirley passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama, at the age of 88. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
