A Life of Victory and Triumph

Dr. Sherry Denise Dodd was born, on December 6, 1968, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the loving care of her parents, Velma Dodd and the late Johnny Foster Dodd. From her earliest moments, Sherry carried a quiet strength, a radiant grace, and a God-given purpose that would shine throughout her life.

Educated in the Spartanburg County school system, Sherry always exhibited a thirst for wisdom and spiritual understanding. Her academic journey was crowned with distinction when she earned her Doctorate in Theology from Liberty University. This accomplishment was not simply a personal triumph but a divine milestone in a life fully surrendered to the service of God and His people.

Dr. Dodd was a licensed minister whose calling was evident to all who encountered her. With a heart full of compassion and a voice seasoned by the Holy Spirit, she preached and taught the gospel with power, clarity, and conviction. Her smile alone could minister peace, and her presence often felt like a sanctuary. She was warm, approachable, and deeply loving; a true reflection of the God she served so faithfully.

As a devoted member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Dr. Dodd found joy in fellowship and strength in worship. Her church family was a meaningful part of her journey, and she served faithfully, ministering with passion and sincerity.

Though she held various occupations throughout her life, her greatest joy was found in ministry. Sharing the Word of God, encouraging the brokenhearted, and pointing others to Christ brought her unmatched fulfillment. She was also an accomplished author, having penned the inspirational book "Breast Cancer to Healed", a poignant and powerful account of her journey as a breast cancer survivor. Her testimony became a light for others walking through shadows.

Dr. Dodd endured many health battles, including cancer, strokes, and heart failure. Yet through it all, her faith remained unshakable. She never wore the weight of her suffering. Instead, she clothed herself in dignity and joy, always appearing radiant, always speaking life, always trusting God. Her beauty, both within and without, was untouched by the trials she faced.

One of the most profound demonstrations of her love came near the end of her earthly journey. Having received the miraculous gift of a heart transplant, Dr. Dodd made the extraordinary decision to become an organ donor. In her final act of grace, she offered the gift of life to others, praying that someone would not only receive healing, but also come to know the love of God she so deeply treasured.

Left to honor and cherish the gift she was are: her loving and devoted mother, Velma Dodd of the home;  twin brother, Gary (Pam) Dodd of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Angela Dodd of Spartanburg, SC; aunts, Virginia Ray of Columbus, NC, Willie Ann Mayes of Forest City, NC, Daisy Mae Lyles of Chesnee, SC, and Debbie Dodd of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchild, Jace Williams; godchildren,  Jocelyn Gossett, and Deonte' Ray; special cousins, Linda Williams and Monique Williams; and numerous associates and acquaintances.

On Saturday, July 19, 2025, Dr. Sherry Denise Dodd completed her earthly assignment and transitioned into eternal rest with the same grace that defined her living. Her voice now joins the heavenly chorus, and her legacy continues through every life she touched, every message she preached, and every soul she inspired. A vessel of honor, a woman of excellence, and a gift to this world, she will be remembered with reverence, love, and deep gratitude.
