Samuel Penson, Jr. was born, on December 8, 1939, to the late Leona Briggs Penson and the late Samuel Penson, Sr. in Greenville, SC.  He was educated in the Spartanburg County school system and a graduate of Bethune High School. He worked for Inman and Lyman Mills until his retirement.

Samuel had a comedic and humorous personality. He possessed a big heart and was extremely giving. In his spare time, he delighted in playing chess, tending to his garden, and watching basketball.

He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by his wife, Alice Tinsley Penson; siblings, Elisabeth Norris and Robert Penson; and grandson, Travis Leshun Wicks.

Left to cherish his fond and loving memories include his sons, Samuel B. (Patricia) Penson, Dennis W. Penson both of Spartanburg, SC and Eric " Rico" (Pamela Wells) Penson of Boiling Springs, SC; brother, Timothy Penson of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Chelsea Anderson, Brooklyn Clark, Tysean Penson, and Samantha Penson;  seven great-grandchildren; bestfriends, Robert "Pap" Caldwell, William Twitty and Joe Copeland; and a host of other relatives and friends

On February 9, 2025, Samuel transitioned peacefully at his home. His comedic and caring heart will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
