August 11, 1951 – April 20, 2025
Raymel Lavonia Talley was born on August 11, 1951, to the late Melvena Carter Curry and the late Luther T. Curry, in Columbus, OH. She graduated from South High School in Columbus, Ohio, and continued her education at Columbus State Community College, where she earned an associate degree in Social Services. She also attended the University of California, Berkeley.
Raymel was full of life and had an uplifting spirit that touched everyone she met. She was known for her beautiful smile and her unwavering positivity, no matter the circumstances. She loved spending time with her family, she loved to travel, and she was a wonderful seamstress. Raymel loved God deeply and lived a life full of wisdom and she was always ready to help anyone in need. Shel was a member of First Church of God in Columbus, Ohio, where she sang joyfully with the Mass Choir and served her church family faithfully.
Raymel was a proud Ohio State Buckeye football fan, a loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys football team, and also a fan of the LA Lakers basketball team. She especially loved all shades of blue, a color that reflected her vibrant and calming presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Marico Ramone Curry Talley; her sister, Qudiere Surratt, and her grandson, Jaylen Talley.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her son, Monty Talley (Kimberly) of Taylors, SC; daughters, Tondelea Talley of Columbus, OH and Tia Talley (El) of Moore, SC; stepson, Royal Talley. She also leaves behind her brothers, Emery "Skip" (Verma) Curry, Tyrone (Helena) Feltus-Curry and Michael Curry; her sisters, Yolonda (Troy) Curry-Bachus, Karen Harris, Charlene Redd, and Rosita Curry; grandchildren, Domanique Talley, Zachary Talley, Haile Talley, Quintin Talley, Racquel Talley, Jada Talley, Marico Talley, Jr., Keyon Talley, Dominik Talley, Katalina Talley, and Kamilo Talley; her great-grandchildren, Alaiza Talley, Adonis Talley, and Cyae Talley. Cherishing her memory as well are: her aunt, Gloria "Christine" Napper; godchildren, Charlene Hawes and Maureen Black; her best friends, Betty Marshall and Diana Pierce; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
On April 20, 2025, Raymel transitioned peacefully at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital. Raymel's radiant smile, her encouragement, and her boundless love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
