Randy Shands was born on May 24, 1962, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the late Ellaree Ferguson Shands and the late John L. Shands. He was educated in Spartanburg County schools and later became a skilled welder with Quality Carbide, where he faithfully served for over ten years before retiring.
Randy was known for a warm, easygoing spirit and a personality that brought laughter wherever he went. A natural jokester who connected easily with others, he carried a presence that made people feel comfortable and welcomed. Gifted and hardworking, Randy took pride in both craft and character. A devoted father and family man, he found joy in time spent with loved ones. Football was a favorite pastime, and he remained a loyal fan of the Atlanta Falcons. At an early age, he was baptized at Harrison Grove Baptist Church.
Cherishing a lifetime of memories are children, Tiffany Collins, Latasha Shands, and Latoya Shands, all of Spartanburg, South Carolina; siblings, Angie Shands Copeland of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Debra (Carlton) Jones of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, Lashia Brewton, Amiya Shands, Ka’Niyia Shands, Elijah Collins, Jeremiah Collins, Legend Shands, Sayid Holbert, Adonis Ancrum, and Baby Harris; devoted friends, Joe Petty and Keith Porter; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
On the evening of Sunday, April 26, 2026, Randy Shands transitioned at Spartanburg Medical Center. Randy’s presence, laughter, and the memories created will remain a lasting imprint on all who knew and loved him.
