A Portrait of Good Man
Phillip Wayne Moss, Sr., affectionately known as "Pete", was born October 18, 1954, to the late Gussie Lee Moss, Sr. and the late Willie Magdalene Farr Moss, in Spartanburg, SC. He was lovingly raised by parents Willie Mae Draper" MaMae" and the late Waddell Draper. Phillip was educated in Spartanburg County schools and a 1973 graduate of Spartanburg High School. He continued his education at Rutledge Business College and received an Associate Degree in Business. Phillip enlisted in the United States Army and served six years. While enlisted, Phillip was a kitchen supervisor. He was the owner and operator of Bo Lawn Care for over seven years.
Phillip was a magnificent son, father, and grandfather. He took great pride in being the caretaker of his mother. He had an extremely giving heart and never said no to anyone. Phillip was a jokester at heart and loved to smile. He lived by example and his mere presence would brighten your day. Phillip was also noted for giving everyone great nicknames.
He was a devout Christian and was a member of Allen Chapel United Methodist Church. Phillip also served on the deacon board. His favorite color was blue and he was a Denver Broncos fan.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by adopted father, Waddell Draper; siblings, Gussie L. Moss, Jimmy L. Moss, Ralph Moss, James Moss, and Julia Moss; and brother-in-law, Eddie Watson.
Left to cherish his life, love, and legacy include sons, Elder Phillip W. (Natasha) Moss, Jr., and Nicklaus (Denisha) Moss, Sr. both of Spartanburg, SC; daughters, Tanya (Perez Rookard) Moss of Spartanburg, SC and Samaria (Zachary Mitchell) Rooks of Atlanta, GA; brother, Julian Moss of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Peggy Kelly and Karen Watson both of Spartanburg, SC; aunt, Lucy Gist of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Tre`Veon Moss, Nicki Moss, Shawnell (Devin) Littlejohn, Douglas Moore, Jr., Quinton Crosby, Nicklaus Moss, Jr., Keylan Harris, Logan Moss, Currisha Garrett, Moesha Garrett, and Josiah Moss; great-grandchildren, Armani Moss, Kha` Ren Moss, Kaisen Moore, and Kylie Moore; sister-in-law, Donna Moss; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Phillip transitioned at his home. His loving, kind, generous, and comedic spirit will sorely be missed by his family and friends.
