Onnie Lee
Mcgee-Briggs
Aug 6, 1939 — Jun 27, 2026
Spartanburg
Onnie Lee Briggs was born on July 6, 1939, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the late Oniela Miller Briggs and Owens McGee. She was educated in the Laurens County School District and was a graduate of Bell Street High School. Dedicated to serving others, Onnie was employed as a dietitian with Spartanburg School District, where she faithfully cared for the nutritional needs of countless students throughout her career.
A woman of quiet strength and unwavering faith, Onnie was a devoted member of Bunton CME Church, where she worshiped alongside her church family. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, exemplifying its principles of charity, truth, and loving service. Her favorite color was red, a fitting reflection of her vibrant spirit and warm heart.
Onnie was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her children, Willie J. McGee and Joan Smith; and her brothers, Andrew McGee and Joe McGee.
She leaves to cherish her life, love, and precious memories her devoted husband, Russell Briggs of the home; her grandson, David Smith; her great grandchildren, Denzel (Kimberly Davis) Smith, Leaylah Smith, Leorah Smith, Makayla Smith, and Davia Smith; her siblings, Maggie Payne, Maryema McGee, and Leroy McGee; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other beloved relatives, and many treasured friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and gentle spirit.
On Monday, July 27, 2026, surrounded by the peace and comfort of God's presence, Onnie Lee Briggs peacefully entered into eternal rest at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of faith, compassion, and devotion will continue to inspire generations to come.
