Mother Betty
Jane Sims
August 10, 1941 – March 1, 2024
Mother Betty Jane Sims, affectionately known as "Bette", was born August 10, 1941, to the late Sam Miller, Sr. and the late Euline Wilburn Miller, in Spartanburg, SC. She was educated in the Spartanburg County schools.
Mother Sims was the "neighborhood nanny". She took great pride in caring for children in the neighborhood so that their parents could work. She was highly respected and extremely God fearing. She had a sweet and pleasant demeanor and her favorite color was red. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching Andy Griffin, Family Feud, Let's Make a Deal, Soap Operas, and anything by Tyler Perry.
She was a founding member of At his Feet Ministry. Mother Betty was a pillar and rock to the church. She was member of the usher board, pastor's aide committee, and treasurer. Betty was a prayer warrior and one of the church's mothers.
Betty was preceded in death, along with her parents, by husband, Deacon Darphus Sims, brothers, Sam Miller, Jr., Fred Miller, and Roy Miller.
Mother Betty leaves a legacy and love and faith in God to daughters, Mary Ann (Minister Odell) Sloan, Pastor Dorothy Younge, Betty Pilgrim, and Barbara A. Sims all of Spartanburg, SC; sons, Michael (Nancy) Sims of Spartanburg, SC and Carl Smith of Union, SC; sisters, Earlene Wilkins and Sarah (Nathan) Wilkins both of Spartanburg, SC; uncles, David Hill and Welp Hill; grandchildren, Deyon Pilgrim, T'Keyah Sims, Daniel W. Rice, Jr., James T. Rice, Minister Shakisha Stringer, Shawnita Sims, Anthony R. Sims, Michael A. Sims, Timothy Mobley, and Terry Rodgers; twenty five great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Benita Miller, and host of other relatives and friends.
On the evening of March 1, 2024, Mother Betty transitioned peacefully at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Her loving and kind spirit will echo in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.
