Melvin Louie Nesbitt was born on April 9, 1950, to the late Mary Whittaker Nesbitt and the late Louie Nesbitt, in Spartanburg, SC. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School. Melvin later enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years.
Melvin had a mellow, calm, and positive spirit and loved his community. He spent his spare time 'hanging on the line' in Roebuck. Melvin was a member of Foster Chapel Baptist Church and was a drummer for forty-five years. He also served as the church custodian until his health declined. Melvin's favorite NFL team was the Washington Commanders and he enjoyed watching western movies.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by sisters, Myrtle Lou Vealma Johnson and Marquetti "Keena" Nesbitt; brother, Marion Franklin Nesbitt.
He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to his loving wife of 25 years, Sandra Nesbitt of the home; daughters, Marian Nicole Nesbitt of Union, SC and Breanca Nicole Brown of Spartanburg, SC; sons, Melvin L. Nesbitt, Jr. of Washington, DC, Maurice Levon Nesbitt of Easley, SC, and William Horace Pearson of Spartanburg, SC; siblings, Marva Farr, Maxine (Charles) Kelly, Marilyn (Eddie) Parks, Millicent "12 " Bruton, and Monica Floyd all of Spartanburg, SC, grandchildren, Jayvaughn L. Nesbitt, Jarvis O. Nesbitt, Nicosha Bennet, Brian Bennet, Da'Kari Amir Dunn, Devin Bennet, and Chaves Nesbitt; great-grandchildren, Trinity Aaliyah Nesbitt and Alazya Mi'Nae Nesbitt; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
On the evening of Monday, May 1, 2023, Melvin passed away at home with family by his side. His legacy of love and faith will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
