Melissa B Atchison “Boot” and “Alberta” was born on February 15, 1941, departed this life on April 15, 2026, after a brief illness. She graduated from Carver High School by attending night classes. She also was a member and Sunday School teacher at Macedonia Baptist Church located at 301 West Henry Street, at that time, in which she continued her membership at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for several companies up to the time she retired in 2003. She began to enjoy her years of retirement “not watching the clock,” she would say. She enjoyed painting, ceramics, arts and crafts. She also traveled and enjoyed time with family and friends.
She is predeceased by her father Matthew Booker, mother Bertha Lee Thompson and her brother John L. Thompson Sr., grandparents Nathaniel and Bessie Booker. She leaves to mourn her son Calvin D Atchison of Syracuse NY. Her daughter Jacqueline Gist Salters of Spartanburg, SC. Her son-in-law, Jimmy Salters. Her grandchildren Ashley Salters, Ethan and Denise Atchison and one great-grandson Asthon Salters, sister-in-law Ella B Thompson, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and respiratory in the pavilion 4th floor ICU therapists for their dedicated service at Spartanburg Medical Center.
