Mrs. Mattie Mae Anderson Smith, age 76, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026.
Born on March 24, 1950, in Asheville, North Carolina, Mattie was the beloved daughter of the late James Anderson and Ruby Anderson. She lived a life centered on family, love, and devotion to those she cherished most.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Smith; her parents, James Anderson and Ruby Anderson; her brothers, Calvin Durham and James Anderson, Jr.; her sister, Mary Louise Wingo (Laymon); and her great-grandchild, Kashmere Dodd.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Donna Marie Davis, Bobby Joe Davis, Jr., and Michelle Darlene Davis. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Faith Butler (Jerome), Erica Davis, Charity Davis, Ashley Dodd, Deyonta Olley, and Ahmad Olley. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Kyla Dodd, Brielle Butler, Ra’King Griffin, Xavion Gist, Kendrick Wells, Ahnalen Olley, Ahnaria Olley, and Tiana Olley. She is also survived by her sisters, Wilma Ann Miller and Tammy Anderson; her brother, Kenneth Anderson (Darlene); her beloved aunt, Everlina Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish her memory forever.
Mattie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved spending time watching her favorite television game shows, including The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Family Feud. She was known for her love of cooking and for bringing family together through meals prepared with care and love. Above all else, she adored her great-grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. Her warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for her family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Though she is no longer with us, the memories she created, the love she shared, and the lives she touched will continue to be a lasting source of comfort and strength for her family and friends.
"Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure."
