Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Blackley was born on May 30, 1948, to the late Marvin and Hazel-Mae McDowell, Mary was a woman of unwavering faith, kindness, and compassion. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Garfield McDowell, and her precious granddaughter, Mariah Blackley.

Mary was a devoted member of New Pilgrim Baptist Church in Campobello, South Carolina, where she grew up in the Christian faith. She later served at Greater Saint James Temple in Inman, South Carolina, where she became known for her sweet, gentle spirit and unwavering love for God. Mary loved to sing in the choir and delighted in giving God praise for His many blessings. She always had a kind word and a helping hand for everyone she met, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.

Mary worked for many years at Spartan Mill and later dedicated her time and talents to the cafeteria at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. Her compassion and work ethic touched the lives of many, and she made a difference in her community through her hard work and kindness.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 55 years, Floyd Blackley; one son, Russell Blackley of Spartanburg, South Carolina; one sister, Minister Jerlene Miller of Chesnee, South Carolina; two brothers, Boyce Lee McDowell (Carolyn) of Campobello, South Carolina, and Marvin Ronald McDowell of the home in Chesnee, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Akeilah (Keke), Trinity, Brandon, and Bryson; three great-grandchildren Rhyan, Khori, and Noah all of Spartanburg, SC; two goddaughters, Jayla Hill-Porter (Kardai) of Boiling Springs, SC, and Teauna Reid of Duncan, SC; a multitude of nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving family members and friends.

Mary Elizabeth Blackley at the age 76, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. Mary's life was a true reflection of God's grace, love, and mercy. Her spirit of kindness, faith, and love will be deeply missed, but she will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her family find comfort in the beautiful memories she leaves behind.
