IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lueada Washington
Rogers
December 15, 1939 – March 7, 2025
Lueada Washington Rogers was a woman of strength, humor, and boundless love. Born on December 15, 1939, in Penola, AL, to the late Leodis Turner Washington and Roosevelt Washington, Sr., she embraced life with a spirit that was both resilient and radiant. A proud graduate of North Sumpter High School's Class of 1956, she worked hard throughout her life, leaving her mark at Hendrix Elementary School's cafeteria, Copac as a machine operator, Abbott Laboratory, and ultimately retiring as a dedicated home health aide.
Lueada was a natural-born comedian with a sharp wit and a punchline for every occasion. She was the kind of person who could make anyone laugh, known for her funny sayings that family and friends will cherish forever. In her spare time, she found joy in shopping, especially thrifting, and working on crossword puzzles. She was an exceptional cook, famous for her delicious pound cake, a sweet reminder of the love she poured into everything she did.
Deeply devoted to her faith, Lueada was a dedicated member of Holden Chapel Baptist Church, where she served with love in the Sunbeam Choir, Sympathy Club, Culinary Ministry, and Chancellor Choir. She also found sisterhood and joy as a proud member of the Red Hatters. Her favorite color, navy blue, reflected her timeless elegance and strength.
She was preceded in passing by her parents and her beloved brothers: Willie James Washington, Roosevelt "Tom" Washington, Jr., Bobby Washington, and Early C. Thundneil Washington.
Lueada's legacy of love and laughter lives on through her devoted husband of 65 years, Arthur Lee Rogers; her loving daughter, Verlynda (Larry) Cartledge of Spartanburg, SC; her cherished granddaughter, Alisha Cartledge of Boiling Springs, SC; and her sisters, Lillie Atkin and Laura Quarles of Saginaw, MI, Bettye Stanton of Chicago, IL, and Sadie (Melvin) Washington of High Point, NC. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Clara Washington; dear friends, Elease Dodd, Shirley Crook, Emily Monroe, and Ruby Cates; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever carry her love in their hearts.
On Friday, March 7, 2025, Lueada peacefully transitioned at Spartanburg Medical Center. Though she is no longer physically with us, her spirit, laughter, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing her.
Rest well, Lueada. Your love, light, and laughter will never fade.
