Kelvin Le'Vel Broadhurst

Kelvin Le’Vel Broadhurst, Jr., affectionately known as “Lil Kel” and “KJ”. entered this world on April 27, 2005, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, as a precious gift to Latoya S. Robinson Lyles and the late Kelvin Broadhurst, Sr. From the very beginning, his life radiated promise, purpose, and a presence that could not be ignored.

A proud graduate of Dorman High School, Class of 2023, Kelvin distinguished himself both academically and athletically. While at Dorman, he made his mark on the football field as a formidable defensive lineman, demonstrating strength, discipline, and unwavering determination. His excellence carried him beyond high school, earning him a football scholarship to North Carolina A&T State University, where he was pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, embodying both intellect and ambition.

Kelvin was more than accomplished, he was exceptional in spirit. He possessed a rare combination of humility, strength, and integrity. Well mannered and deeply respectful, he carried himself with a quiet confidence that commanded admiration. His presence brought light into every room, and there was never a dull moment in his company. With a bold yet caring nature, Kelvin held those around him accountable, never hesitating to correct what was not right, yet always doing so with sincerity and heart. He was deeply loved, widely respected, and genuinely cherished.

A devoted fan of the Carolina Panthers, Kelvin embraced his love for the game beyond the field. His favorite color, green, reflected the vibrancy and life he carried within. He was also a faithful member of Hardy Chapel Baptist Church, where his spiritual foundation continued to grow.

While attending North Carolina A&T, Kelvin embraced brotherhood on a profound level as a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., initiated through the distinguished Eta Chapter. Within his line, he held the honored position of Rock of the Line, a role that signifies strength, stability, and unwavering dependability. He stood as a foundation among his brothers, a steady and unshakable force in every moment. He carried the line name “LeonidaΣ,” bearing the mark of Sigma with pride, strength, and distinction. Kelvin did not merely wear the letters, he lived them. He exemplified the fraternity’s sacred principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service through the integrity of his life, his loyalty to his brothers, and the strength of his character. He was also a dedicated participant in My Brother’s Keeper and was honored as Mentee of the Decade.

He was preceded in death, along with his father, by his grandmother, Katie Broadhurst; great grandmothers, Iola Smith and Earlen Wofford; and great uncle, Lee Robinson.

Left to honor his life and legacy are his loving mother, Latoya S. (Derrick) Robinson Lyles of the home; his maternal grandparents, John and Mary Robinson of Wellford, South Carolina, and Teresa Robinson of Spartanburg, South Carolina; great grandfather, Richard Smith of Spartanburg, SC; uncles, Cedrick (Tasha) Broadhurst of Richmond, Virginia, Michael (Monique) Broadhurst of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Brenton (McKenzie) Fleming of Duncan, South Carolina, Brandon Robinson of Columbia, SC, and Darrion Scott of Arizona; aunt, Latisha Robinson of Spartanburg, South Carolina; great aunts, Sherri Smith, Robin Kerns, Elaine Dawkins, Sandy Smith, Debra (James) Jones, all of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Dena Miller of Duncan, South Carolina, and Lisa Robinson of Spartanburg, SC; sister cousin, Angelique Ballenger; the Lyles family; Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc; Aggie Family; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

On Saturday, April 11, 2026, Kelvin transitioned from labor to reward, a life that, though brief to our measure, was fulfilled in the perfect will of God. His life was grand in impact and glorious in legacy. His strength, his spirit, and his presence will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, resilience, and unwavering purpose that will never be forgotten.
