Jessie James Hunter, affectionately known as "June," was born on June 13, 1947, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to the late Lue Grace Hunter and the late Jack Martin. He received his education in the Spartanburg County School System.

A skilled auto mechanic by trade, Jessie worked faithfully for many years and was widely known for his vibrant sense of humor. He was a natural comedian who brought laughter and joy wherever he went. Jessie had a deep love for music and was a proud member of the All-Male Choir at Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church, where he also held his membership. He also served on the trustee board. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, fishing, watching western television shows, and working on his beloved truck. His favorite color was red.

Jessie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn Hunter and three of his children, Barbara Evans, Martha Hunter, and Kenneth Hunter, along with his parents.

He leaves to cherish his memory to  his children, Jessie Hunter of Spartanburg, SC Carolyn (Julius Floyd) Hunter of Greer, SC and Mary (Arthur) Epps of Lyman, SC;  brother, David Hunter of Norfolk, VA and sisters, Margaret Hunter of Woodruff, SC, Gladys Mallory of Spartanburg, SC and Stella Gaston of Greer, SC; grandchildren, Terrance Hunter, Cedric Hunter, Tyrus Evans, Cottia Glenn, Anthony Wilkie, Tyson Teasley, Porshay Ellis, Sheneka Hunter, Tyrece Garrison, Anthony Glenn, Keymah Drummond, Monica Epps, and Glenn Cheeks; 14 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

On Monday, June 16, 2025, after an extended illness, Jessie transitioned peacefully at his home. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
