IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry Lee
Mcintyre
December 2, 1948 – September 18, 2025
Jerry Lee McIntyre was born on December 2, 1948, in Roebuck, South Carolina, to the late Devada Evelyn White Littlejohn and the late Rhyne McIntyre. He was educated in the Spartanburg County school system and graduated in 1965 from Foster Grove High School.
Following his education, Jerry answered the call of duty to his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He faithfully served with honor and distinction, later receiving an honorable discharge after completing his years of service. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Cecelia Ruth Dodd McIntyre, and together they were blessed with three beautiful children.
Professionally, Jerry dedicated more than 25 years of his career as a mechanical engineer with Norfolk Southern, where his hard work, commitment, and skill earned him the respect of his colleagues. After decades of excellence, he retired to spend more time with family and community.
Even in retirement, Jerry continued to work diligently, serving as a groundskeeper at Spartanburg Community College. In that role, he took great pride in maintaining the beauty of the campus, demonstrating the same care and commitment he had always shown throughout his life. Whether engineering precision or tending to the grounds, Jerry exemplified excellence, responsibility, and a love for meaningful work.
Jerry was a man full of life, laughter, and character. Known for a hilarious personality, sharp wit, and outspoken nature, he truly never met a stranger. He carried himself with a unique blend of humor, gratitude, and meticulousness that endeared him to all. He took pride in maintaining his yard, was a devoted fan of the Clemson Tigers and NBA basketball fan and found joy in sports, both as a participant and a coach. For many years, he coached Little League basketball, mentoring countless young athletes whose lives were shaped by his encouragement, both on and off the court.
Spiritually, Jerry was a faithful and active member of Ridgeville Baptist Church, where he served in several capacities. He was President of the All-Male Choir, a committed servant in the Men's Ministry, and a dedicated member of the Deacons' Ministry. His service to the Lord and his church family was marked by steadfast devotion and genuine love.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, as well as brothers, Marshall Tate and Larry Littlejohn.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories are his wife, Cecelia McIntyre of the home; sons, Darrell McIntyre and Michael McIntyre, both of Boiling Springs, SC; daughter, Sharon McIntyre Rivers of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, John Cade, Chase Dietz, Marcus Rivers, Dylan Dietz, and Chance McIntyre; great-grandchild, Dante' E. Deitz Harper Dietz, and Maggie Dietz; brother, Robert I. (Emily) Anderson, Sr. of Boiling Springs, SC; cousins reared in the home, Gerald Clowney and Jackie Evans; special friends, Deacon Mack Lyles, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Huey, and Stephanie McDowell; brothers-in-law, Alton (Bertha) Dodd Jr., Cecil (Phyllis) Dodd, and John Dodd; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and friends who will continue to be inspired by the love he shared and the laughter he brought.
On Thursday, September 18, 2025, Jerry peacefully transitioned at Spartanburg Medical Center. Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, the legacy of his faith, his love for family, and his unforgettable humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
