Crawford
January 9, 1947 – March 12, 2025
James Crawford was born, on January 9, 1947, in Spartanburg, SC, to the late Clara Smalls Crawford and the late Booker T. Crawford. He was educated in the Spartanburg County school system and worked as a janitor until his retirement.
A devoted member of Montgomery Chapel Baptist Church, James was known for his enormous heart and easygoing nature. He had a passion for plants and a natural green thumb. He loved to have fun and was well-known as a disc jockey, performing under the stage name "Black Flag." A dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan, James enjoyed cheering for his favorite team.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Henry Crawford, James B. Crawford, and Christine Crawford.
Left to cherish his fond and loving memories are his caregiver and friend, Yvonne Foster of the home; his sons, James Crawford, Jr. and Michael B. Crawford, both of Pacolet, SC, and Rodney Crawford of Campobello, SC; his brothers, Bobby Crawford and Doug Beatty, both of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Michael K. Crawford, Lauren Edwards, Michael Crawford, Jr., Rodney McClintock, Jr., Jermaine Moore, and Shaquita Palmer; two great-grandchildren; his best friend, Bennie Drummond; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, James transitioned at Spartanburg Medical Center. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
