IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hazel
Dawkins
November 11, 1929 – December 23, 2025
Mrs. Hazel V. Dawkins, of Cowpens, South Carolina, entered eternal rest on December 23, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late John Wesley Durrah and Fannie B. Durrah, and the devoted wife of the late Lewis Dawkins, Jr.
Born and raised in South Carolina, Hazel was one of twelve children and grew up on the family farm. In December 1950, she married Lewis Dawkins, Jr., and together they traveled extensively during his military service before returning to settle in Cowpens. Hazel dedicated 21 years of service to Broome and Spartanburg High Schools, where she was admired for her commitment and kindness.
A faithful member of New Zion Baptist Church, Hazel lived a life rooted in faith and community. She enjoyed attending Sunday School classes and learning more about the Bible from Annie Means, as well as spending time at the Timken Senior Center and visiting with family and friends.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Dawkins, Jr.; her son, Reid Dawkins; four brothers; and six sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving sister, Sarah Brockman; brother-in-law, William Dover; daughter, Nancy D. Dawkins; her three grandsons: Kevin Dawkins, Armond Dawkins, and Spencer (Danielle) Dawkins; great-grandchildren Adeline and Sebastian Dawkins; her special niece, Patricia Coleman; and a host of other relatives and friends. Hazel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
