George Washington Hawthorne was born, on March 29, 1941, to the late Joe B. Hawthorne and the late Blanche Chapman Hawthorne, in Greensboro, NC. George was educated in Greenville County schools and a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was the owner and operator of Hawthorne Garage for over ten years.
George had a very pleasant and inviting personality. He loved the Lord and he often could be found talking about His goodness. He was formerly a deacon at Mt. Zion World Outreach. George loved eating, especially sweets. In his spare time he enjoyed sitting on the porch and looking out of the window.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by siblings, Stephen Hawthorne, Eddie Hawthorne, Sr., Betty Earle, and Yvonne Goldsmith.
Left to cherish his fond and loving memories include his loving wife, Dorothy Brown Hawthorne of the home; sons, Ronnie (Angela) Hawthorne of Greenville, SC and Travelis (Rebecca) Brown of Spartanburg, SC: daughters, Zealina (Terence) Jeter of Boiling Springs, SC, Elaine Hawthorne of Greenville, SC and Lakeisha (Victor) Hawthorne of New Jersey; brothers, Reverend Ralph (Beatrice) Hawthorne of Greenville, SC, Henry O. (Geraldine) Hawthorne and Joe T. (Helen) Hawthorne both of Pelzer, SC; sisters, Ann (Johnny) Sullivan of Fountain Inn, SC, Linda Briggs of Mauldin, SC, Brenda Brownlee of Pelzer, SC, Sharon (Steve) Gary of Simpsonville, SC, Sandra Hawthorne and Mary A. Neely both of Pelzer, SC; sisters-in-law, Martha Coleman, Mary A. Durham, Virginia Brown, Viola (Jay) Durrah, Linda Byrd, and Debra Robinson all of Spartanburg, SC; brothers-in-law, Leonard (Stephanie) Brown of Spartanburg, SC and Robert L. (Cheryl) Caldwell of Warner Robins, GA; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
On the evening of Wednesday, May 15, 2024, George transitioned peacefully at his home with his wife at his side. He will forever be loved and cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
