George Anthony Anderson, affectionately known as "Hammer" was born on December 12, 1960, to the late Manuel Lee Anderson and Sarah Lee Cunningham Anderson, enter eternal rest on October 7, 2025. George was educated in the Spartanburg County School System and was a proud graduate of Dorman High School class of 1980. During high school he worked several jobs, including driving a school bus. After high school he joined his father at Batcheler Blasius Recycling, Inc. and worked until anon-the-job injury prevented him from returning. George later found employment as a custodian at Dorman High School, where he worked faithfully until his retirement.
George was a hardworking man who's first love was cooking, as he graduated from RD Anderson Commercial Cooking program. He loved the outdoors and took great joy in spending time outside, gardening and tending to flowers, a passion he shared with his beloved mother. Known for his humor and cheerful spirit, he loved to dance and had a gift for bringing laughter and light to those around him. During his younger years, he played baseball, and during high school he was part of the basketballteam. He remained an avid sports fan throughout his life, cheering on his favorite teams the, Miami Dolphins, New York Yankees, Miami Heat, Dorman Cavaliers and most recently Mountain View Prep Stars, where his grandson Mak "Jackleg'' Anderson plays quarterback. George was a devoted member of New Testament Christian Church where his faith continued to shine through his kind and loving personality as he worked proudly with the kitchen and cleaning ministries.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by siblings, Marion andDelois Anderson, Mariah C. Morris, and Hardy Salters, nephews, Warren Donnell McDowell and Jonathan Meminger. A lifetime of love and memories will be cherished by his wife Andrea M. Anderson of 42 years; Sons, Anthony Bobo, and Sedrick Posey of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Chavis Nesbitt of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Javarie Anderson of Chesnee, South Carolina; Daughter Shakayla Nichole Anderson of Spartanburg, South Carolina. His stepson, Deon Smith of Spartanburg, SC; brothers, Samuel (Lornell) Cunningham of Asbury Park, New Jersey, Emanuel (Volencia) Anderson of Irvington, New Jersey, Kenneth (Catherine) Anderson, Thomas Anderson, Alvin Anderson of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Stephen (Carol) Anderson of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, Sisters Rosa Linda (Roger) Meminger of Brooklyn, New York, and Stephanie A. McDowell of Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is also survived by his aunt, Janie Harden of Hiram, Georgia, fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends his devoted College ParkCommunity family.
George, the original 'Hammer Time' before there was MC Hammer will truly be missed.
