Essie Gladney was born on November 18, 1931, in Fairfield County, South Carolina, to the late Anna Lyles Bates and the late Dock Bates. She spent many years as a domestic engineer until she retired.

Essie was a sweet, loving and kind lady. Essie enjoyed watching the Young and Restless and sitting on her porch. She also enjoyed painting her nails and her favorite color was pink. Essie was a Carolina Panthers fan.

Essie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Essie is survived by her daughter, Cathy Gladney of the home; grandchildren, Ronnie (Shakara) Gladney of Indian Land, SC and Benjamin Gladney of the home; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

On the morning of Saturday, November 25, 2023, Essie transitioned peacefully at the Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Her loving and kind spirit will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
