Doris Tate

Doris Tate was born on November 24, 1948, to the late Evaline Tate in Spartanburg, SC. She was educated in the Spartanburg County schools and spent her life surrounded by family, friends, and the community she loved.

Doris was known for her friendly spirit, warm personality, and kind heart. She enjoyed spending time with those she loved and never met a stranger. She especially enjoyed watching westerns, with Gunsmoke being among her favorite television programs. Her favorite color was green, and she found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. Doris was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she worshipped and fellowshipped throughout the years.

She was preceded in death, along with her mother, by her siblings, Edward Tate, Janice Thompson, and Annie K. Wells.

Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her daughter, Marlena Norman of Spartanburg, SC; siblings, Willie J. (Laurie) Tate of Brookhaven, PA, Lurean (Joseph) Crosby of Spartanburg, SC, and Edith Norman of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Zhyderriah Cheeks, Marliyah Norman, and Navaya Norman; great grandchildren, Aubrei Cheeks and Azriah Cheeks; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Doris will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love for family, her friendly nature, and the many lives she touched along the way. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain a treasured blessing.

On Monday, June 15, 2026, Doris peacefully transitioned from labor to reward at Spartanburg Medical Center. Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she shared and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
