IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donny Smith
Kerns
October 22, 1954 – November 17, 2025
Donny Smith Kerns was born on October 22, 1954, to the late Minnie Lee Means Kerns "Horn" and the late Charlie Kerns "Buck" , in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was educated in the Spartanburg County School System and graduated from Spartanburg High School.
Donny was a loving and caring man of few words, yet his quiet strength spoke louder than many voices ever could. He cherished the outdoors and enjoyed being active, often finding peace and joy in the simplicity of nature. His favorite color was red, a fitting reflection of his bold spirit and warm heart. He was a faithful member of Hardy Chapel Baptist Church, where his belief in God shaped his character and guided his life.
With honor and devotion, Donny served his country in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged after many years of dedicated military service, carrying with him a deep sense of commitment, discipline, and pride in having served.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by his beloved wife, Jacqueline Kerns.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Samantha (Angelo) Ballenger of Greer, South Carolina and Donny (Jacqueline) Kerns, Jr. of Moore, South Carolina. He is also survived by his siblings, Jerry (Ann) Kerns and Danny Kerns, both of Spartanburg, South Carolina. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Chance Kerns, Mariah Ford, Jaydyn Kerns, Anaydia Kerns, Saniya Kerns, Deadre Smith, Abrianna Kerns, Angelique Ballenger, and Skylin Kerns, as well as seven great grandchildren. He is further remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends who were touched by his kindness and steady presence.
On Monday, November 17, 2025, Donny transitioned from this life. His family and friends will forever miss him, honor his memory, and carry forward the love he gave so freely. A life well lived and a heart that loved deeply.
