Deacon Roy Gaffney, Jr., who was affectionately called "Daddy," "Daddy Roy," "Mr. Roy," and "Papa" by his loving family, was the first of five children born to the wonderful parents, the late Palmer and Reeder Montgomery Gaffney, on November 13, 1930, in Lyman, SC.

He was a devoted and active member of Greater St. James Temple Holiness Church in Inman, SC for over sixty years and served faithfully in many capacities:  Deacon Emeritus, Sunday School Superintendent, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Head Chairman of the Deacon/Trustee Board, member of the Brotherhood Auxiliary, Secretary of the church, and Church Bus Driver.

Deacon Gaffney was also a respected veteran of the United States Army for nineteen years.  While serving, he earned the Korean Service Metal with two Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.

Prior to retiring from M. Lowenstein Corporation (Spring Mills) in 1991, Deacon Gaffney enjoyed working on trucks and tractors and was self-employed in Waste Management for over thirty years.

He was united in holy matrimony for 46 years to the late Clara Ballenger Gaffney. To this union, God entrusted their aides with the task of raising five children.

Deacon Gaffney leaves a rich legacy of uncompromised love to three sons, Leroy (Norma) Gaffney of Duncan, SC, Steve Gaffney of Greer, SC, Elder Terry (Jackie) Gaffney of Inman, SC; two daughters, Deborah (Chris) Poole of Simpsonville, SC and Janet (Tony) Swindler of Duncan, SC; two sisters, Mildred Gaffney Davis of Pittsburg, PA and Burnestine Gaffney Parks of Wellford, SC; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, especially a devoted and special friend, Mrs. Edith Jackson of Inman, SC.

Two sisters, Lois Gaffney Rector and Dorothy Gaffney Salters; one brother, Johnny Lee Gaffney; and one great-granddaughter, Amajouritse Eda preceded him in death.

In your infinite wisdom you saw fit to say, "Well done thou good and faithful servant…Enter thou into the joy of the Lord," after ninety-one years of well pleasing and acceptable service.
