IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Booker
Jr.
January 5, 1955 – December 24, 2021
David Booker, Jr. was born in Union, South Carolina on January 5, 1955. He was the oldest of 6 children born to the late David Booker, Sr. and Edna Keenan Booker.
At a young age David, affectionately known as Junior, and the family moved to New York City where he was educated in the New York School System. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Gerlene (Punkin). The family then moved to Baltimore where he stayed for a year until he told them, "I'm moving back to New York City to be close to my girlfriend." David married his soulmate, Gerlene Sloane, on September 27, 1975. To this union, two children were born.
David was a hard worker. He was meticulous with anything that he did and liked things to be done right. This showed in all of his work at AT&T, P.S. 123, and Queens Public Library. When he would talk about his work ethic he would say, "I like for things to be done right!" e didn't like when people did a half-handed job at things.
David's love for music was introduced to him at a young age by his parents. The family traveled the country singing God's praises as "The Golden Voices" and David sang and played the guitar. He lovedQuartet music; two of his favorite groups were The Evereadys andThe Williams Brothers. One of his favorite songs by the Williams Brothers was, "If I Don't Wake Up" to which he would often lift his hands and stomp his foot and say, "Them Boys can Sang". He also loved his R&B music and if his song, "Whoa," by Jaheim came on you can bet that he was going to get up and dance.
David loved sports and some of his favorite teams were the Miami Dolphins and the New York Knicks, but if any sport was on he would watch it on TV. He also loved True Crime shows like "Forensic Files" and "The First 48". He spent a lot of his spare time making CDs of his favorite music and DVDs of movies; he also loved to shop!
Most importantly, David loved his family. There was nothing that he would not do for his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. Every year he made sure that they went on a family vacation so that they could spend quality time together. He loved his brothers and always made sure that he stayed in contact with them to be assured they were okay. He loved all of his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was always there when anybody needed him. Even if he was in pain or tired, he would do what he needed to do to make sure that he took care of his family when they needed him.
David leaves to cherish his loving memories: his loving wife of 46 years, Gerlene Booker (of the home); one son of Queens Village, NY, David Booker, III; one daughter of Moore, SC, Daquanna Booker Smith; three grandchildren of Moore, SC, Jenae, Jaylen, and D'mya Smith; four brothers, Reverend Woodrow Booker, Apostle Willie Booker (Lisa), Steve Booker all of Moore, SC and Kevin Booker (Robin) from Wilkes Barre, PA; six sisters-in-law, Dianne Sloane-James of Bennettsville, SC, Arlene Sloane McKay (David) of Manhattan, NY, Margaret Wallace of Far Rockaway, NY, Elaine Sloane and Anna Booker both of Brooklyn, NY, and Dorothy Marvin of South Ozone Park, NY; one brother-in-law, James Sloane of Charlotte, NC; six godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Ronnie Lee Booker; a grandson, Damajai Smith; three sisters-in-law, Tawanna Booker, Louretha Booker, and Clara Jean Booker.
On Friday, December 24, 2021, God saw fit to take David from his labor to his eternal reward.
