IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clough "Jack"
Wallace Long, Jr.
September 7, 1926 – June 16, 2023
Deacon Clough Wallace Long, Jr., aka "Jack", was born on September 7, 1926, to both the late Clough W. Long, Sr. and Landonia Long, in Jonesville, SC. He was educated in the Spartanburg County Schools. Jack was a Veteran of the United States Army and he retired from Sothern Railroad after 30 years of service.
Dea. Long was an upbeat outgoing person who even in his elder years was still very young at heart. He enjoyed golfing and his tag line for a Tee off was "go get'em Tiger!" After his mobility began to decline, he began piano lessons to help keep himself entertained. Dea. Long's most noted hobby and talent was photography, as he was known county wide for being a freelance photographer. He was a member of the Spartan Star Masonic Lodge #108. Dea. Long loved the Lord and the Lord's church; he served at his church as Deacon, church treasure, on the All Male choir and with the Gospel Messengers Singing Group.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by three brothers, William Long, Elliot Long, Sr., and Lester Long, Sr.; three sisters, Christina Long Dean, Rebia Hester Long and Zelekar Styles.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories are his wife, Texie Long of the home; sons, Ervin E. Long (Mary Coker) of Spartanburg, SC, James W. (Genevea) Long of Lakeview, SC, Erskin L. (Jacqueline) Long, and Thomas E. Long both of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Christie Long of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Mildred Helen Nesbitt; an aunt, Pearlie Mae Harris of Mauldin, SC; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; bonus son, Lawrence Snoddy of Spartanburg, SC; bonus daughter, Edith Cauller of Spartanburg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
On Friday June 16, 2023, Deacon Clough Wallace Long, Jr. peacefully transitioned. It is by a great many he will be greatly missed.
