Christine McKissick was born, December 18, 1936, to the late Pearl Murphy Briggs and the late AJ Briggs, in Spartanburg, SC; She was educated in the Spartanburg County schools and a graduate of Foster Grove High School class of 1954. She was member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Christine loved her family. She was very fashionable and was an incredible seamstress and who sewed her own clothes, curtains, and drapes. Her favorite color was purple. She was known for being extremely frugal and enjoyed cooking. Christine kept her home extremely clean. In her spare time she enjoyed watching football with her husband and her favorite musical artist was Prince.
She was preceded in death, along with her parents, by her children, Timothy Hughes, Antonio Hughes, Derrie Hughes, and Marilyn Hughes; siblings, Gertrude Garrett, Mamie Gatewood, Magaline Smith , AJ "Smiley" Briggs, Florraine Briggs and Willie Mack Briggs.
Left to cherish her fond and loving memories included her loving and devoted husband, Robert McKissick of the home; son, John R. Hughes of Chesnee, SC; stepsons, Christopher (Aretha) McKissick, Kelvin McKissick, and Quincy McKissick; brother, Larry H. (Lois) Briggs of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Lorraine (Charlie) and Dorothy (JV) Rogers; grandchildren, Calvin Jackson of Spartanburg, SC and Derrie Walker of Kileen, TX; great-grandchildren, Tahjai Smith, Calasia Jackson, Calvin Jackson, Jr., Derrion Walker and Derriona Walker; great-great grandchildren, Tason Smith and Mahzi Jackson; friends, Alzalee Durant and Demetrice Clark; and a host of other relatives and friends.
On the evening of Wednesday, January 1, 2025, Christine's life came to a close at her home. She will live on in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.
