IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carolyn
Bates
March 27, 1946 – March 18, 2025
In the gentle arms of time, a life so precious found its rest.
Carolyn Ann Bates, born on March 27, 1946, in Spartanburg, SC, was a beacon of love, strength, and grace. The beloved daughter of the late Thelma Meadow and the late Harold Bates, she walked through life with kindness at her core.
Educated in Spartanburg County schools and a proud student of Carver High School, Carolyn's greatest calling was that of a caregiver. As a devoted housewife and mother, she poured her heart into raising her children, embodying warmth and compassion with every step. Her nurturing soul extended beyond her home as she welcomed children with open arms, always ready to share her love.
Carolyn's presence was soft yet powerful, sweet yet unwavering. She found joy in the simple moments, whether watching game shows or working magic in the kitchen. Known for her legendary banana pudding and hoe cake bread, she fed not only stomachs but also hearts, leaving memories of comfort and delight.
She now joins in eternal peace her beloved husband, Thomas Drummond; her parents; and her brothers, Ollie Bates and Curtis Bates.
Though she has departed this world, her love lingers in the hearts of those she leaves behind: her daughter, Geraldine Bates of Wellford, SC; her cherished grandchildren, Sonya Bates, Anthony Cheeks, and Jasmine Bates; her dear aunt, Mary Ellen (Sam) Rickard; her precious great-grandchildren, Ki'Shauwn Bates, Danielle Mullins, Amari Cheeks, Karina Mullins, Salena Jackson, and Kamarrion Hamilton; her nieces, Cassandra Bates, Linda Bates, Carolyn Bates, and Tammy Bates; along with a host of loving relatives and friends.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Carolyn peacefully transitioned at her home, surrounded by the love she so selflessly gave. Her life was a testament to kindness, and her spirit was a melody that will never fade.
Though her journey on earth is done, her love endures—unbroken, everlasting.
