Carlton Smith, affectionately known as "Cot", was born, on December 11, 1948, to the late Margaret Jones Smith and the late Matthew Smith in Spartanburg, SC. He was educated in Spartanburg County schools.

Carlton possessed a goofy and comedic disposition.  He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching tv and movies. His favorite TV show was Martin. He also spent a lot of time working on cars. His favorite NFL team was the Carolina Panthers and he was partial to color the blue.

He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by brothers, Matthew Smith, Jr. and Ernest Smith and granddaughter, Kashmere Dodd.

Left to cherish his fond and loving memories are his loving wife, Mattie Mae Anderson Smith of the home; son, Bobby Davis, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC; daughters, Donna Davis and Michelle Davis both of Spartanburg, SC; brothers, John Wesley (Debra) Smith of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Carolyn Smith of Woodruff, SC and Ella Smith (Randy) Mack of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

On the evening of Monday, December 9, 2024, Carlton transitioned peacefully at the Spartanburg Medical Center. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
