Obituary

With hearts filled with both sorrow and gratitude, we pause to honor the extraordinary life of Bernice Lucile Brown, affectionately known to her family and friends as " Bunt". Born on March 18, 1937, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of the late Addie O. Bivings Meadows and the late James Milton Meadows. She was raised in a nurturing home where faith, family, education, and community were treasured. These foundational values shaped the gracious woman we came to know and love.

Bernice received her early education through the Spartanburg County School System and graduated with distinction from the historic Lincoln High School in the Class of 1955. A woman of intelligence and insight, she carried her academic achievements into every area of her life.

At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Foster Chapel Baptist Church. Her Christian walk was sincere and steadfast. While living in Cincinnati, Ohio, she united with Bethel Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. Upon returning to her South Carolina roots, she joyfully restored her membership at Foster Chapel Baptist Church and reengaged with the spiritual community that first shaped her faith.

Frank and Bernice Meadows Brown shared a devoted and enduring union that spanned over six decades. Their love story was blessed with the joy and responsibility of parenthood, and from this sacred bond came their beloved daughter, Carolyn Brown, who was the pride and joy of their lives.

Bernice devoted many years of her life to the Cincinnati Public School System, where she served with excellence and commitment until her retirement. She left an indelible mark on her colleagues, students, and the broader educational community. Her professional journey was marked by diligence, compassion, and a commitment to excellence.

A woman of remarkable presence, Bernice possessed a candid and straightforward nature balanced by a sweet and generous spirit. Her love for family was unwavering. She was deeply committed to those she loved and always found time to laugh, listen, and lift others up. She found joy in life's simple pleasures. Whether playing a competitive game of gin rummy, shopping at her favorite store Hamrick's, or delighting in the boldness of her favorite color red, Bernice embodied warmth and authenticity. She was also an active member of the Jolly Club, a sisterhood of fellowship and fun that brought her great joy.

She now rests in the presence of the Lord alongside her beloved husband, her devoted parents, and her dear siblings, Ola Mae Alexander, James W. " JW" Meadows, Grover L. Meadows, Joan Meadows, and Brady Branson. Their reunion in eternity is a divine celebration.

Her love and legacy continue through her devoted daughter, Carolyn Brown of the home, who cared for her mother with exceptional love and dedication. She is also survived by her sisters, Alice Rowland, Johnnie, Oneal Fulwood, and  Linda Ezell, all of Moore South Carolina; brother Michael (Linda) Meadows, Sr. of Moore South Carolina; grandson, Corey Ringer, II;  great-grandchildren, Corey Ringer, III and Joie Riley; a special niece, Deborah Rogers; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family,  friends whose lives were blessed by her presence.

On Sunday July 13, 2025, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, Bernice transitioned from this earthly realm into eternal rest. She departed this life with the same quiet dignity and grace that defined her journey. Though her voice has been silenced, her legacy will continue to echo in the hearts and lives of all who were fortunate to know her.

A life so full of love, laughter, faith, and family deserves to be honored with the deepest reverence. And so we say not goodbye, but farewell for now, until we meet again in glory.
