Benny Leigh Philson, Sr.

Benny Leigh Philson was born on August 28, 1941, in Spartanburg, SC, to the late Hattie Bell Philson and Larry Philson, Jr. Educated in the schools of Spartanburg District Four, Benny graduated from Woodruff High School. He worked for many years as a machine operator at Eaton. Known for being hardworking, talkative, and opinionated, Benny never hesitated to speak his mind. He enjoyed playing cards, staying busy, and spending time around family and friends. A true workaholic at heart, Benny believed in keeping moving and keeping things going.

Along with his parents, Benny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mattie L. Philson; sisters, Lillie R. Jackson, Gracie Westfield, and Hattie Abrams.

Left to cherish precious memories are children, Jacqueline (Jim) Osborne of Spartanburg, SC, Benny (Danielle) Philson, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC, and Capucine Philson of Thailand; Henry (Catherine) Sims, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC; siblings, Jerry (Robin) Philson of Boiling Springs, SC and Larry Philson, Jr. of Woodruff, SC; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

On Monday, May 11, 2026, Benny entered eternal rest at his home. Though life’s journey has ended on earth, the memories, laughter, conversations, and love shared will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Benny will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
