Drummond, Sr.
March 17, 1937 – March 13, 2024
Bennie Lee Drummond, Sr. was born on March 17, 1937, in Woodruff, SC to the late T.J. Drummond and the late Gennie V. Drummond. He was educated in the Spartanburg County school and a 1955 graduate of Carver High School. He continued his education at Spartanburg Technical College and Rutledge College. He retired from Michelin after many years of service. Bennie was a United States Navy Veteran.
Bennie had a comedic and frank demeanor. You never had to wonder about what he was thinking because he was always going to express it. He enjoyed watching golf, especially Tiger Woods, Westerns, football, and basketball.
He was a proud member of Majority Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, custodian/building monitor, food pantry ministry, and rising stars summer camp. He was noted for opening the gym at the church so the neighborhood children could come and play in a safe environment.
Bennie was preceded in death, along with his parents, by sister, Mary Louise Drummond and Annie Pearl Drummond; brother Thomas Anderson; friends, Emize Wilkins and Joe Woodruff.
Left to cherish his loving memory are his wife, Joann Drummond of the home; sons, Bennie Lee Drummond, Jr of Spartanburg, SC, Carl L. Drummond of Spindale, NC, Bennie D. Drummond of Spartanburg, SC, Rodrick L. Drummond of Spartanburg, SC, Cornelius R. Means of Boiling Springs, SC, and Tyler J. Wingo of Spartanburg, SC; daughters, Lisa F. Drummond of Spartanburg, Patrina D. Drummond of Spartanburg, SC ad Rachel L. Means of Woodruff, SC; 26 grandchildren; and a host of loving great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Bennie transitioned at his home. His comedic and curt spirit will be forever cherished by his family and friends.
