Belton Cohen, affectionately known as "Belt" was born on December 23, 1949, to the late Louvenia Cohen Jeter and the late George Cohen, in Spartanburg, SC. He was educated in the Spartanburg County school system and attended Lincoln High School. He was united in marriage to the former Emma Salter, and from this union four children were born. Belton was employed by Tindall Concrete as a welder until his retirement.
Belton was a simple man who found joy in life's everyday pleasures. He loved fishing, cutting grass, and taking pride in maintaining his yard. Quiet by nature, he nevertheless enjoyed good natured joking and talking junk with his brothers. Gray was his favorite color, and those who knew him best knew the special love he shared with his wife, affectionately calling her his "Pest" a nickname that reflected the closeness and affection they shared.
In addition to his parents, Belton was preceded in death by his brother, Willie L. "Possum" Salter, and his son, Belton Cohen, Jr.
Left to cherish his life and legacy are his loving and devoted wife, Emma Salters Cohen of the home; children, Christopher Salters of Corpus Christi, TX, Barbara Ann Cohen of Pacolet, SC, and Nicolea (Reginald Hill, Sr.) Cohen of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Mary Fuller of Spartanburg, SC, Betty Browning of Spartanburg, SC, Annie Maguatte of Spartanburg, SC, and Sarah Cohen of Bamburg, SC; brothers, Joseph (Patricia) Cohen of Spartanburg, SC, Richard (Wendy) Cohen of Atlanta, GA, and Sammie (Telena) Cohen and Alvin (Linda) Cohen, both of Greenville, SC; aunt, Betty Glenn of Woodruff, SC; grandchildren, Krystal J. Salters, Alexis Cohen, Mark Teamer, Jr., Malcolm Salters, Jaden Cohen McKoy, Eve D. Salters, Reginald "RJ" Hill, Jr., Nevaeh Salters, and Dashawn "Biscuit" Hill; great grandchildren, Kenneth "Mojo" Dalcourt, Jr., Ty'Yanna "Ty" Artison, Morgan Artison, Travod Artison, Knova Salters, and Melanie D. Teamer; goddaughter, Tiffany Lyles; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many cherished friends.
On Saturday, July 18, 2026, Belton peacefully completed his earthly journey and entered into eternal rest. Though his quiet presence will be deeply missed, the love he shared, the memories he created, and the legacy he leaves behind will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His life was a testament to hard work, devotion to family, and finding joy in the simple blessings of life. His memory will continue to be treasured for generations to come.
